3. De Aar Community:

Mgrs Alcaster: on 6 November 2007 suffered a stroke. He was briefly hospitalised and is now recuperating in De Aar. Although the stroke was rather mild it is still very uncertain whether in the time to come he will be able to render any services to the Church of De Aar. For the time being bishop Potocnak took over the pastoral responsibilities of Mgrs Alcaster.

Bishop Potocnak attacked again: at the beginning of December 2007 he was again hurt by robbers. It happened when he was collecting mail at the post box room in De Aar. In broad daylight bishop was hit in head, fell on his face and for some time was unconscious. Bishop received 8 stitches and was examined by two doctors. Although visibly injured he decided to conduct confirmation in Colesberg just 5 days later. Exactly a year ago (Jan 2007) bishop was attacked and mildly stabbed a few times in his house in De Aar.

Br. Montford, candidate for priesthood of the Diocese of De Aar, is spending his whole academic holiday with the bishop in De Aar. Br. Montford should complete his studies at the St John’s Vianney Seminary in Pretoria by the end of 2008. Brother comes originally from Malawi.

Two other seminarians, this time from Cedara, Natal – Joseph and Michele – have joined bishop Potocnak, Fr. Marek SCJ and Br. Montford in De Aar for the whole of December. These two brothers are the members of the Cameroon Province of the Priests of the sacred Heart (SCJ) who came to South Africa to study philosophy. When in Natal they are part of the SCJ International Formation Community in Pietermaritzburg.

"Education for Life" workshop with 17 youth from the De Aar Diocese was conducted in De Aar at the Veritas H. School, form 8 to 11 December. The workshop that aimed at helping young Christians to change and sustain their behaviour in the time of AIDS was facilitated by Fr. Maslowski SCJ, Sr. Odey MSSH and Mrs. Frieda …. . Brothers Montford, Joseph and Michele also participated.

4. Hilton Farm Community:

During the first week of November, Fr. Chris came back to South Africa and continues his PhD studies.

The end of November was linked with finishing a two-month works of reconstructing the Hilton Community house. Right now it is more suitable for the purpose of communal life.

Fr. Adam helped the Diocese of De Aar by organizing a workshop on "Education for Life," and had a chance to meet some of his former parishioners.

New students from Cameroon: Fr. Joseph Mukuna and Br. Jean Pierre Mokonzi, together with Fathers: Alessandro and Innocent visited our Hilton Community and socialized  with us.

The Christmas event and the New Year were celebrated in the Community.
