1. Provincial/ Aliwal North Community:

On the 15th and 16th of April (Aliwal North), the SCJs gathered for the first Provincial Assembly. The second day was marked with the Eucharistic celebration presided by Fr. Adam Musialek who celebrated his jubilee of 25 years of priesthood.

On the feast of the Sacred Heart the members of the AM Province participated in the joyous celebration of the 40th anniversary of the priestly ordination of Fr. Anthony Austin scj. The Holy Mass was presided over by Fr. Austin and concelebrated by a number of the SCJ and the local diocesan priests at the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Aliwal North. The homily was delivered by Fr. Franz Aertker, a good friend of the jubilarian. The Eucharist was followed by the small reception in the parish hall. The children from the Holy Cross Catholic school entertained the guests with African singing and dancing.

2. Pietermaritzburg International Students House (Dehon House):

On the 15th of April, Fr. Innocent Mabheka scj, graduated at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Pietermatzburg. Fr. Mabheka was admitted at a congregation of the University to the degree of Master of Theology (Ministerial Studies) after having satisfied the conditions prescribed for the degree in a one year period. The following is the title of Fr. Mabheka’s thesis: "RESEARCH ON HUMAN VALUES IN RELIGIOUS LIFE AS PRACTICED IN THE ROMAN CATHOLIC CHURCH CONGREGATION OF MARIANNHILL MISSIONARIES IN THE DIOCESE OF MARIANNHILL IN SOUTH AFRICA BETWEEN 1996-2007". Fr. Mabheka is now full time involved in formation as part of the formation team.

On the 20th of June, the scholastics of the Pietermaritzburg International Formation House, completed writing their exams at St. Joseph’s Theological Institute at Cedara. This was followed by a great exciting community outing which took place in the Drakensberg Mountains on the 21st of June 2008. The community had fun together enjoying walking around and climbing the mountains. Our scholastics happened to see the local team which was playing soccer and joined the team. The match was exciting even though our Pietrmaritzburg team had to leave the match because it was getting dark. Our community still had to travel back home for about 150 kilometres. The only sad thing about the visit is that one of the scholastics lost his cell phone. He looked quite miserable but the cell phone was nowhere to be found.

3. De Aar Community:

On the 28th of April, the De Aar SCJ's Community assembled for the celebration of Fr. Mark Przybys' feast-day. The Eucharistic celebration was followed by a "solemn" lunch. The brothers and sisters enjoyed a very good spirit of that event.

Sixteen years ago (1st of May 1992), Fr. Joseph Potocnak SCJ was consecrated as the Bishop of the De Aar Diocese. May God continue to bless his ministry!

On the 3rd of May, Sr. Jane Odey MSSH received the BA degree in Social Work from the University of South Africa.

On the 22nd of May, Bp. Joseph Potocnak came back from his holiday and rejoined the clergy, sisters and faithful.

4. Hilton Community:

On the 18th of April, Fr. Adam Maslowski replaced Fr. Adam Musialek in De Aar. He continued to help the Diocese during Bp. Joseph's absence.

On the 23rd of May, Fr. Adam Musialek went to Poland in connection with his studies.

On the 5th of June Fr. Charles Brown, a member of the USA Province visited our Community in Hilton and spent with us some of his precious time.

On the 30th of June Frs. Paul and Adam went to the Philippines, for the "SCJ Pastoral Convention - Pastors with compassionate heart." The Convention will take place in Manila, from the 2nd to the 21st of July.
