September 2009/ Volume 19

1. Provincial/ Aliwal North Community:

The beginning of July witnessed, Fr. Provincial's return from the General Chapter.

On the 4th of September, Fr. Chwaja, SCJ rejoined the Aliwal community coming back from his holiday.

2. Pietermaritzburg International Students House (Dehon House):

Recently (10th of August) some of our scholastics participated in the Vocation Exhibition event in Pietermaritzburg.

3. De Aar Community:

On the 12th of August, Deacon Michael Benedict, SCJ went back to India after over a year ministry in the Diocese of De Aar. He was immediately deployed as a member of the Indian SCJ formation team in Andhra Pradesh. When in South Africa, Dn. Michael was pastorally helping out in Middelburg and in De Aar. His priestly ordination is scheduled for the 28th December 2009 in India.

On the 14th of August, Fr. Koscielny, SCJ rejoined De Aar community coming back from his holiday to Colesberg, where he has been working as the parish priest.

On the 22nd of August, the last edition of the Diocesan Pastoral Council was organized in Colesberg. Representatives of various communities from the Diocese, first, listened to the feedback from the National Pastoral Forum conducted two weeks earlier in Mariannhill on the topic of common priesthood. Then, after a short discussion another theme was introduced: "Healing in the Catholic Church." This was lively presented by Fr. Colin Bowes who also talked about his personal experiences of healing in his pastoral ministry.

On the 24th of September (in the Town Hall in De Aar) 19 South African Bishops together with SCJs from various provinces, diocesan priests and the people of the Diocese of De Aar gathered to participate in the Episcopal ordination of Rev. Fr. Adam Musialek, SCJ. Archbishop of Cape Town, Henry Lawrence was the main consecrator assisted by the former Bishop of De Aar, Joseph Potocnak, SCJ and Archbishop of Bloemfontein, Jabulani Nxumalo, OMI. We wish the new Bishop Adam Musialek all the strength and wisdom in shepherding his new "flock." May God bless You in your Episcopal ministry!
 

4. Hilton Community:

From 4th-11th of July, Fr. Grzelak, SCJ gave a retreat to the Doughters of Charity of the Sacred Heart in Durban, Inanda. The theme of the retreat was the Doughter's Charism: "All for the glory of God."

On the 25th of August, Fr. Maslowski, SCJ came back to Hilton community from his holiday.

On the 10th of September, the Mission Director of the Polish Province, Fr. Michael Ciemiega, SCJ arrived in South Africa. After visiting the Hilton community he went to Aliwal North. Fr. Ciemiega, who worked in South Africa for 13 years, will attend Fr. Adam Musialek's ordination to episcopate in De Aar.

From the 21st to 29th of September, Hilton community had hosted several international visitors who came for the Episcopal ordination of Rev. Fr. Adam Musialek, SCJ. They came respectively from: the Democratic Republic of Congo, Poland and the United States.

On the 22nd and on the 29th of September, Fr. Maslowski, SCJ and Dn. Mpiti, SCJ met with 4 young people who showed an interest in our SCJ's spirituality and charism. Several others expressed their willingness to come for the vocations workshop and join our program - "come and see." Let us pray for them and for vocations to religious life and priesthood.

On the 26th of September, Fr. Maslowski, SCJ began his pastoral ministry at the St. Francis of Assisi Parish, in Eastwood, Pietermaritzburg.
