News from Aliwal North, De Aar,

Hilton and Pietermaritzburg Communities:

 

From the 18th to 23rd of October, the SCJs together with the diocesan priests of Aliwal participated in the annual retreat at the Assisi Retreat Centre.

On the 24th of October, Bishop Adam Musialek SCJ came back from Poland and started his ministry in the De Aar Diocese and Bishop Emeritus Joseph Potocnak SCJ returned to the USA.

From the 25th of October, Fr. Przybys SCJ started his pastoral ministry in Graaff-Reinet. Previously he worked as parish priest in De Aar.

On one of the misty days in October, while on his holiday, Fr. Sompane SCJ became injured in a car accident. Even though he suffered a minor injury, he still has a problem with his knee.

On the 5-6th of November, our SCJ Brothers: Mpiti, Twaibu and Wahica, successfully passed their final comprehensive oral exam. Congratulations!!

On the 16-17th of November, the second Provincial Assembly gathered in Aliwal and re-elected Provincial and elected a new Council. Bishop Adam Musialek SCJ chaired the Assembly.

In November, after full year of teaching in the St. Joseph's Institute, Fr. Grzelak SCJ spent some time with his relative from Poland exploring the amazing nature and wildlife of South Africa.

In the last week of November, Fr. Mabekha SCJ and Br. Ramabhata came for their retreat to the Scholasticate in Pietermarizburg. After a week they went back to the formation house in Aliwal North.

PMB Community has welcomed four new scholastics who will continue their study at the St. Joseph's Institute. They filled the gap left by five scholastics who after completing their studies in philosophy and theology went back home to their respective Provinces. Two other scholastics decided to continue their studies in their own countries.

On the 19th of December, the South African Province celebrated an important event; two of our SCJ's Confreres: Ntsikelelo Bambatha and Joshua Mpiti were ordained to priesthood by Bishop Michael Wuestenberg. The event took place in Burgersdorp, Aliwal Diocese.

This Christmas, Hilton and Scholasticate Communities, together with parishioners of the St. Francis of Assisi Church, celebrated Midnight Mass. On hour before the Midnight Mass the parishioners gathered in the church and sang Christmas Carols.

On the 27th of December, Fr. Chwaja SCJ joined the Hilton Community and will minister as the parish priest in the St. Francis of Assisi in Pietermaritzburg. Welcome!

On the 28th of December, Fr. Surdel SCJ left for India where he will participate in the ordination to priesthood of Dn. Michael Benedict.

On the 31st of December, Frs.: Alesandro (SCJ, Mozambique Province) and Antonio (SCJ, Venezuela Region) paid a visit to the Hilton Community.
